I have been blessed with some pretty amazing grandparents and great-grandparents and so has Lawrence. And that means that our kids have some pretty awesome grandparents too.
When I started dating Lawrence he told me that we would go on a date to play cards with his grandparents. I though it was sweet that he wanted me to meet them, but odd that he would make a date of it. After the first time we went I understood. Grandma and Granddad Burt were some pretty incredible people. They epitomized a cute old couple with Granddad's quick wit and stories and Grandma's hospitality and disapproving glances when Granddad would joke a little too much. It was fun to go play cards with them and hear Granddad's war stories and funny poetry while eating cheetos and stale candy; so much so that we went back often even after we were married and had kids. We visited with Grandma and Grandpa Stone often too, chatting about history, family history, and anything else that struck Lawrence's fancy.

My grandparents were a little harder to come by while we lived in Idaho. My dad's mom keeps herself busy, working full-time (still) and making crafts with her sisters. We see her regularly at family gatherings and I admire how hard she continues to work. I am jealous of her yard, that she keeps and maintains mostly by herself and wish she would come work on mine for me. My mother's parents are often found "globe trotting" serving missions for the LDS church in places such as Africa, the Philippines, and England. We look forward to the times they are are at home and to their emails updating us on the things they are doing and the lessons they are learning that we also learn from.
I am so thankful for the examples of all my grandparents, the people who made my parents who they are and eventually passed on to me. I love being able to learn from them and have their examples to share with my children.
