Family

Soon after Melissa and Lawrence got engaged Lawrence's parents came down to meet us. They came over to the house and we visited for a while and then went to lunch. Throughout the engagement time until the marriage Marilyn and Larry were gracious and kind to us. We were included in everything. Anytime we go to Idaho Marilyn makes sure we are fed. When Melissa had Ethne and I wasn't able to stay after her birth Marilyn made more dinners than I can count for Lawrence and Melissa. She treated Melissa like a true daughter. My Mom made the comment once when they were up that she felt she knew them as well or better as she knew her own kids' in-laws. A friendship grew there that has enriched our lives. When Lawrence called to say Melissa and the kids had been in an accident, even before I got to the scene, Lawrence's folks said we will be there in 4 hours (length of time to get from St. Anthony, Idaho to Salt Lake City). Five minutes later they were on the road. They didn't say, call us when you know something more and we will see what we can do, there was no question that they were coming. I know Ethne is their grandbaby too, but the support they have shown has been to Lawrence AND Melissa.

They are why Lawrence is the wonderful son-in-law I have. I am amazed by their strength. Every time they come down I think I am going to be the hostess that Marilyn is every time we go up there, and every time they come down I fail miserably. They share and support Melissa and Lawrence in their grief. Nothing during this whole week has been about them. In fact, the only bickering we have done this week has been who got to go tidy up Melissa and Lawrence's home. They have been so gracious to let us take Edward every night and just see him during the day. I learn from Marilyn and Larry every time I see them with their kids why Lawrence possesses the strength he has. Again, I am thankful that Melissa picked Lawrence and Lawrence picked Melissa. She couldn't have better in-laws. In so many ways this has made one of the hardest times in my life a much sweeter time. Thanks Marilyn and Larry.
