Melissa here.
I've been told that people are wondering how I'm doing and how my recovery is going. First, let me give a rundown of the damage so you can understand a little of what I'm going through, physically.
5 broken ribs
2 pelvic fractures (non displaced, so no surgery)
two skull fractures
whiplash
L-4 transverse process fracture (in my spine, yikes!)
splenectomy (they took my spleen!)
bumps, bruises, and cuts
So, the gash that goes all the way up my belly is healing nicely. They removed the staples about two weeks ago and it is pretty well closed up. I'm walking with a walker still, but occasionally I use a cane. My physical therapist says I'm doing really well and has started giving me some step-up exercises. I have met a lot of my goals with the therapist and am doing a lot more independently than I was doing when I was released from the hospital; for example, I couldn't get all the way into or out of bed by myself and now I can. It doesn't hurt to sit like it used to and I can dress myself. My pain level has gone down significantly in my pelvis and ribs and I really only notice it when I'm doing my exercises or walk a lot. I have been wearing a c-collar (neck brace) since I went to the hospital and they won't let me take it off. My neck doesn't really bother me, but they insist that I keep the annoying thing on at all times. The worst part about the collar is that I can't multitask while I'm on the phone. I honestly don't notice the skull fractures or the spine fracture. Most of my cuts and bruises are healed up pretty well. I'm still not allowed to lift anything over 10 pounds and I can't exactly carry a baby while I'm still using a walker, so I'm making it my next goal to be completely on a cane and to be able to carry Edward around so I can be alone with him.
Thank you all for your continued support it is definitely felt and inspires me to keep working on getting myself better.

I wish I was there to see you use the cane. I know that with your faith and strength you will be holding Edward is no time. It is truly amazing and such a blessing what the human spirit can do! Congratulations on all your hard work and kudos to Lawrence for all that he does in helping you.
Thanks for the update!! All I kept thinking as I read that was how positive you sound! I love chatting with both you and Lawrence on the phone - just makes me smile you are both so upbeat! I know it can't be easy and we are still praying for every little bit of you guys!! Love you!
Thanks for the update Melissa!!!!! I think of you often, hang in there my dear!!!!!! Loves, Andrea
Thanks for the update, you are doing wonderful. I agree it would be a huge disadvantage not to be able to multitask while you are on the phone. You've made me grateful for something new, but we will pray that your neck brace will be able to be removed soon. We will also pray that you will soon be able to carry sweet Edward. Thanks for having such faith
Such great news!! So glad to hear you are healing so quickly, that continues to be our prayer that you would heal quicker than expected! I know you will meet your goals and soon be able to carry your precious baby boy. You and Lawrence are such an inspiration to so many. All our love and prayers.
Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. I love you and hope that you are able to continue with your speedy recovery. If you ever need to talk always know I'm here
